KUALA LUMPUR – From November 12–19, 2022, Malaysia will host the World Amateur Golfers Championship (WAGC) Final. This is one of the most prestigious amateur golf tournaments in the world. The WAGC has a long history and is known around the world as the best amateur golf tournament. People from 45 countries take part every year.

As the biggest amateur golf tournament in the world, it has been led by famous golfers like Arnold Palmer, Annika Sorenstam, and Seve Ballesteros, among others.

Sven Tumba, who played for Sweden in ice hockey, football, and golf, and was one of the most famous athletes in the world, started the fiercely contested championship in 1995.

Palmer, who won seven Majors, was a big fan of the championship. For more than a decade, he was the tournament’s patron.

After the great Spanish golfer Ballesteros died, Sorenstam took over as chairman of the Advisory Board. She is known as one of the best female golfers of all time.

The WAGC has been a success for the past 25 years because it gives amateur golfers a chance to represent their countries. It had its first final in Florida.

Since its start, the WAGC has been held in the U.S., Europe, and South Africa. The world finals were a big deal, so they were held at fancy resorts and played on some of the best courses in the world.

In 2017, this tournament was held in Kuala Lumpur. In 2018, it was held in Johor Bahru, and in 2019, it will be held in Sabah. From November 12 through November 19, 500 of the best amateur golfers will compete for the title at the World Final in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

WAGC is organised and managed by Delta World Sdn Bhd. It’s in charge of running the WAGC World Final as a whole.
WAGC President Isac Saminathan said, “We started in 2012 as the Perodua World Amateur Golf Championship.” “Golfers called it the “Perodua Event.” Since this tournament is often called a “Perodua event,” we started it as a “Golf Series.”

“We thought this was a great chance for all golfers to step up their game and take it to a new level. With this in mind, we made the Perodua National Amateur Golf Series, also known as PNAGS.

“It gives all golfers, no matter how well they play, a chance to compete with other golfers of the same skill level to represent their states.”

Tourism Malaysia, the country’s marketing arm for promoting tourism, is sure that this prestigious event will help bring in more tourists. Malaysia hopes to get 9.2 million tourists from other countries and make RM 26.8 billion from tourism this year.

“We’d like to thank WAGC for giving Malaysia another chance to host the world final,” said Manoharan Periasamy, Senior Director of International Promotion (Asia/Africa) Division for Tourism Malaysia. “We’ll be welcoming amateur golfers from around the world for their final battle in Malaysia.”

After being cancelled for two years because of the Covid-19 pandemic, the much-anticipated WAGC Final will be played on four of the best golf courses in the Klang Valley: the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club, the Glenmarie Golf and Country Club, the Kota Permai Golf and Country Club, and the Kelab Rahman Putra Malaysia.

The golfers will stay at the One World Hotel in Petaling Jaya, and as part of the schedule, they will get to see a number of tourist spots.

Non-golfers who are travelling with the finalists will spend the night at the Lakeside of Putrajaya and spend a day in Malacca.

Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden and former Liverpool goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek will both be here for the World Final. He also played football for Real Madrid.
