LinkedIn has announced a new partnership with Clear to offer free identity verification to nearly 200 million U.S. users and a new workplace credential verification system called Verified ID in partnership with Microsoft Entra.
The companies say that these two plans are meant to improve digital safety and trust on the platform.
Starting this month, LinkedIn members in the United States will be able to verify their profiles with a government-issued ID and a selfie.
LinkedIn says that the new partnership gives its members an easy way to show who they are and build trust in its platform of professionals, companies, and job opportunities. Members who are already part of Clear will be asked to use a selfie biometric to confirm their LinkedIn profile.
“Identifying yourself is the first step in building trust online. Clear and LinkedIn are working together to improve trust on LinkedIn’s platform by giving users a free, easy way to protect themselves and others. Caryn Seidman-Becker, the CEO of Clear, says that this will help people feel safer on LinkedIn. “Protecting real people helps make sure that digital interactions are real.”
As of this month, more than 15 million people have used the Clear network to verify their identities by registering their biometrics. The company has been working hard to add use cases to its platform that aren’t related to travel, such as access to medical records.
Microsoft Entra and LinkedIn show off a secure system for checking credentials at work.
