President Ebrahim Raeisi made the statements during a meeting with Malaysian Foreign Minister Zambry Abdul Kadir in Tehran on Tuesday.

Raeisi emphasised the need of growing connections between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Malaysia, citing the two nations’ excellent potentials and capacities in trade, industry, agriculture, science and technology, and culture.

The president saw the drafting of the two countries’ long-term strategic cooperation plan as important for opening up new horizons in Iran-Malaysia interactions, saying, “We hope that by preparing and drawing such a programme, we will be able to experience ways that have not yet been stepped on, especially in increasing relations and economic exchanges.”

Malaysia’s foreign minister, for his part, saw the Islamic Republic of Iran as a critical ally in the region and the Islamic world.

Abdul Kadir rated the holding of joint talks with Islamic Republic officials during his trip as very constructive, emphasising that his country will never recognise the unjust US sanctions against Iran.

He also urged the expansion and enhancement of bilateral relations with Tehran, particularly in agriculture, medicine, and science and technology.
