On August 11, Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Bin Ibrahim met in Penang with CPC Central Committee Member of the Political Bureau and Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who had just arrived in the city for a visit.
Anwar recalled his successful March visit to China, stating that China is a loyal and good friend of Malaysia, and that Malaysia and China have a distinctive and friendly relationship with robust bilateral cooperation. Anwar expressed his heartfelt gratitude to President Xi Jinping for emphasising the importance of Malaysia-China cooperation. The two sides have aggressively implemented the leaders’ common understandings and made significant progress in cooperation in sectors such as economy, trade, investment, people-to-people and cultural exchanges, and tourism. Chinese companies are welcome to increase their investment in Malaysia. Malaysia is eager to continue deepening collaboration with China in a variety of fields in order to achieve mutual benefit and win-win outcomes.
Wang Yi extended greetings from Chinese leaders. Noting that Prime Minister Anwar is a longstanding friend of the Chinese people, Wang Yi said the two countries’ leaders have created solid mutual trust and friendship, plotted the route, and began a new chapter in China and Malaysia’s collaborative efforts to build a community with a shared destiny. China is eager to collaborate with Malaysia in order to maintain the solid and strong momentum of bilateral relations, deliver greater benefits to the two peoples, and make new contributions to regional growth and rejuvenation.
According to Wang Yi, China and Malaysia are both emerging economies and developing countries with comparable development philosophies and a wide range of shared interests. Wang Yi stated that the two nations have broad opportunities for practical cooperation, noting that high-quality Belt and Road cooperation has given productive results, and that the development of the East Coast Rail Link and “Two Countries, Twin Parks” has achieved good economic and social consequences. China is ready to share the opportunity presented by the super-large market with Malaysia, expand cooperation areas, and achieve mutual benefit, win-win outcomes, and common growth.
