While reverse wireless charging has been spotted on many Android smartphones, it appears that Apple is still working on perfecting this technology, with the current source also hinting to its coming for next-generation iPhones.
Sources close to the situation say that the Cupertino-based company is still working on perfecting full reverse wireless charging technology for its iPhones. For those who are unfamiliar, this technology converts your smartphone into a wireless charging pad, allowing you to charge other goods that enable wireless charging. That is, your phone may wind up charging another gadget that supports wireless charging, or even TWS earphones with charging cases that do.
According to the sources, the firm had hoped to debut the reverse wireless charging technology on the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. However, the corporation had missed its deadline. So it looks that Apple engineers are back to work on finishing the wireless charging technology and developing software enhancements for it. Bilateral wireless charging is another name for reverse wireless charging.
Notably, the iPhone 12 series includes at least some components that enable reverse wireless charging. However, for unknown reasons, this feature has been disabled on the devices. However, once Apple fully enables reverse wireless charging, we should expect iPhones to be able to charge any Qi-enabled accessory. One of the finest applications would most likely be charging your AirPods.
